As many of you know, there has recently been increased attention placed on the huge amounts of electrical power used by typical datacenters that provide IT services and web hosting. Many large facilities consume power megawatts at a time due to the electrical requirements placed on them by high powered servers and the air conditioning units necessary to keep them cool.
At Hostivia, we wanted to do our part to help the situation. So, we set out to do some research on changes we could make that would have a positive effect on our power consumption, without having a negative impact on the quality of service we provide to our customers.
After a few months of research and development work with our hardware provider, Rackmount Specialists, we are pleased to announce that all of our future servers will utilize Intel's new low-power L5400-Series Xeon processors and Seagate's new ES.2-Series hard disk drives with energy-saving "Power Trim" technology. We estimate that these changes, combined with a few others we are making to our new servers, will allow us to offer equal or better performance and reliability to our customers, while reducing our power consumption per-server by 25% - 40%.
If you'd like to learn more about the technology we are using to be eco-friendly, I've included a couple of links below:

You can rest assured that as times change, Hostivia will do whatever it takes to remain ahead of the curve.
